Our History

A Legacy Built on the Water

Gold Coast Boating Centre has been a cornerstone of the local marine community since the 1990s, when it first opened its doors in Burleigh Heads under the name Marine Tune. With a simple mission - to get Gold Coast families out on the water with reliable gear and honest advice - it quickly became a trusted name on the coast. Over three decades later, that mission hasn't changed. The faces have evolved, the yard has grown, and the brands have expanded, but the heart of this business has always been the same.

The Mahon Family Story

In late 2014, Scott Mahon and his then 14-year-old son Bailey walked through the doors of Marine Tune as customers, purchasing a new Stessco tinny. Neither of them knew at the time that just months later, Scott would become one of the dealership's new owners.

Scott brings a remarkable depth of character to everything he does. He spent the late 1980s through to 1998 playing professional rugby league - first with the Parramatta Eels and then with the North Queensland Cowboys - a career that instilled in him a deep appreciation for teamwork, discipline, and leadership. After football, Scott transitioned into the earthmoving industry before the opportunity arose to purchase Marine Tune alongside his brother-in-law David in 2015. The two formed Davsco Marine and rebranded Marine Tune into Gold Coast Boating Centre, with David drawing on his extensive background managing multiple businesses and franchises, and Scott bringing his tireless work ethic and genuine love for the water.

Bailey joined the business from day one, taking on everything a teenage kid could - cleaning boats, photographing stock, creating flyers, and updating the website. Over the years he grew into a more prominent role: joining the sales team, managing the sales team, in charge of all marketing and content, and producing the dealership's well-known boat walkthrough video series on YouTube, which he writes, films, and edits entirely himself.

Growth, Evolution, and a New Chapter

In 2020, the business entered an exciting new phase when Durand Snyman joined Scott as a business partner. Together, they took Gold Coast Boating Centre to new heights - bringing on sought-after international brands including Extreme Boats and Senator Boats, completely revamping the showroom with new flooring, lighting, and a purpose-built service and parts department. The result is what many consider one of the most impressive boat dealerships in the country.

In early 2026, Scott and Bailey Mahon acquired full ownership of the business - making Gold Coast Boating Centre a fully family-owned operation. For the Mahons, this isn't just a business milestone. It's the continuation of a journey that started the moment a father and son walked in off the street looking to buy a boat.
